After setting off from Daytona Beach, our friend John Macartney has made it as far as New Jersey in his coast-to-coast charity drive, and he reports that the Stag – nicknamed “uncle jack” – is running well. At his most recent maintenance stop, at Ragtops & Roadsters in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, a faulty electrical connection to the overdrive was repaired, and some mangled brake bleed nipples were replaced. R&R also tuned the carburetors, reset the ignition timing and changed the oil.
“All in all, ‘uncle jack’ seemed pretty chuffed at this attention and demonstrated his approval with a silky smooth idle and encouraging roars from the back end when the right foot is applied in the expectation of horses,” John reports.
John is criss-crossing the U.S., with forays into Canada, to raise money for three charities that deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, with the support of a number of Triumph clubs and enthusiasts. He’s scheduled to visit us in Bennington, Vermont, tomorrow, July 16, accompanied by members of Brits of the Hudson and the Adirondack Triumph Association. His adventures are updated daily at the TTAC website, where you can also see his route map. When the run is over, the Stag will be auctioned off, possibly at Hershey this fall.
